If you missed 2024's unremarkable bank-job-gone-wrong drama Cash Out, fear not: this sequel can be watched in isolation and it's a touch better than its sludgy forebear. Faint praise, however, as it's still over-familiar, sub-Ocean's Eleven nonsense. John Travolta returns as master thief Mason Goddard, now living a life of luxury after escaping his previous caper. When his girlfriend (Gina Gershon, inheriting the role from Kristin Davis) is kidnapped, he's blackmailed into stealing from a casino owner, which involves Mason and his miscreant crew going undercover as billionaires. As with this franchise's first outing, director Randall Emmett injects some life into proceedings with sweeping, swooping camera shots and surprisingly dynamic action scenes. But the script, again, remains lacklustre, even if the cast have more of a handle on their characters - and Travolta is clearly enjoying himself. Perhaps a third outing for this team, should there be one, might finally see them paired with an exciting screenplay.
