Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Transformers supremo Michael Bay doesn't actually direct the new generation of Turtles films. He just helps produce them. But his trademark wham-bam style of film-making is very much in evidence here. There's even a cameo from Transformers favourite Bumblebee. Out of the Shadows sees secretive half-shell heroes Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey breaking cover to thwart plans by an unholy alliance of arch-baddie Shredder, animalised minions Bebop and Rocksteady, and a disembodied brain from another dimension to - surprise, surprise - take over the world. Megan Fox's TV reporter April O'Neil returns and Stephen Amell (from TV's Arrow) debuts as vigilante good guy Casey Jones in a visually spectacular and fun family film in which the fashionably frantic action sequences, though intense, are bloodless and invariably comic. No need to fret over on-screen deaths or even injuries here. However, that very intensity, and a certain plot complexity, may make the movie less suitable for more sensitive youngsters.
