Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

You don't see that old chestnut, the pop group movie, often these days. Way back when, they were all at it, from Cliff Richard and the Shadows, to the Beatles and Slade. Now veteran rockers Status Quo unexpectedly revive the tradition, with band frontmen Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt flying to Fiji for a series of gigs, stumbling upon an illicit Russian Roulette ring and finding themselves on the run from the criminals behind it. Fiji looks fabulous, and the slick and glossy film doesn't look bad either. Rossi and Parfitt acquit themselves creditably in a cast that also includes Craig Fairbrass as their minder/manager, and Jon Lovitz as the boss baddie. Of course, the whole concept is slight and silly, with little to recommend it to anyone other than rabid Quo fans. But it's not quite the car crash it could have been.
