The Expatriate

This solid chase thriller uses a template that recalls Taken, without ever reaching the same heights. At most, it's watchable with Aaron Eckhart playing Ben Logan, an ex-CIA agent and security systems specialist who suddenly finds that both his personal and professional life has been erased. His office is stripped bare, his co-workers killed, and his emails and bank details deleted. With his moody teenage daughter (Liana Liberato) in tow, he strives to find out who is behind this mess, and crosses paths with former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko along the way. Filmed largely on location across Belgium, the movie is unevenly paced and the plot overly complicated. But committed performances from the always watchable Eckhart and from the talented Liberato (as good here as she was in creepy chatroom drama Trust) may be worth 100 minutes of your time.
