Cross the Line

This tightly-wound thriller stars Mischa Barton as an emergency call operator and Luke Goss as her patrolman husband, who are forced to do a criminal's bidding when their daughter is kidnapped. As hubby and his cop partner are dispatched to the scenes of accidents and crimes minutes before they happen, they try to find a way to rescue his child. On paper, it's a fairly solid premise, and the tension builds nicely. However, the script jettisons logic early on and replaces it with escalating incredulity - the writers would have us believe that Atlanta, a city with a population of half a million, only has two policemen. Barton and Goss are far too calm and capable for parents whose offspring is in mortal danger, but Ving Rhames is suitably menacing as the bad guy pulling their strings.
