As their own mothers drop in unexpectedly, our three under-appreciated and over-burdened moms rebel against the challenges and expectations of Christmas. Comedy starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn
The follow-up to the trashy Bad Moms sees the trio of overworked mothers (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) rebel under the pressures of the holiday season. Like all bad sequels, this seems to have been made without much thought given to where to take the characters next. Given that it starts with a viable talking point - the pressure on mothers to achieve perfection - it's startling how quickly the film leans on poorly written stereotypes that are neither realistic nor very funny. Running out of ideas very early on, the film just descends into a series of visual gags, stumbling across the odd laugh but not saying very much. The presence of comic heavyweights Cheryl Hines, Susan Sarandon and Christine Baranski, as the central trio's own moms, feels wasteful given that there's so little to work with. A hollow film that feels rushed and insincere, A Bad Moms Christmas is far from the festive satire it purports to be.
