An in-depth look at the life and work of avant-garde musician, Frank Zappa.
From playing a bicycle like a musical instrument on an old American chat show to railing before the Senate against parental advisory labels on LPs, musician Frank Zappa was his own man. He went his own way and made his own idiosyncratic sounds with no care for commercialism and consequence. Best known for his leadership of influential avant-garde band The Mothers of Invention in the 1960s and for cutting-edge music that embraced influences as diverse as classical, jazz and punk, this documentary comprises a well-woven patchwork of interview and music snippets from throughout Zappa's 40-year career. He comes across as a complicated, thoughtful and oddly conservative man, despite being the least conservative of musicians. He died of cancer at just 52-years-old in 1993 leaving his fans wanting more. They will welcome this latest legacy and even those who are too young to remember Zappa's work may be drawn in by his iconic rebel status.
