Another group of happy-go-lucky young people are turned into shivering, quivering wrecks in this surprisingly watchable found-footage chiller from Renny Harlin, the director of such 1990s blockbusters as Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Here, it's five students (including ex-Hollyoaks starlet Gemma Atkinson) who are out to solve what caused the deaths of nine hikers in a remote part of the Ural Mountains in 1959. Cold War cover-up? Yetis? Extraterrestrials? All are suggested by the eager (and thankfully not too irritating) quintet as they retrace the steps of the ill-fated expedition. This horror subgenre may be well worn but, like Barry Levinson with The Bay, Harlin has rooted his film in actual events and uses the well-documented incident to tease out an absorbing mystery - shot in spectacular locations - that retains its terrifying secret to the very end.
