Playhouse Presents

Series 1 - 3. Playhouse Presents: Nixon's the One

Harry Shearer voices Mr Burns from The Simpsons, so
is well placed to play that other caricatured scoundrel, Richard Nixon, in a series of vignettes based on transcripts from Oval Office tapes in which he rants about Jews, homosexuals and black people.

There is a sliver of light relief in Nixon’s bumptious offer of marketing advice to a group of dairy lobbyists. Milk helps you sleep!

About this programme

The story examines Nixon's attitudes toward foreign policy, social issues and the crises that would eventually end his presidency, and reconstructs conversations he held with associates including Henry Kissinger and White House chief of staff Bob Haldeman.
