1. Sarah Platt dumps Kit Green – but news of their relationship spreads through the prison

Life behind bars is tough for Sarah when she attracts the attention of a hardened inmate, whose icy glare leaves her badly shaken.

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) is horrified during a prison visit to discover her mum sporting a badly bruised face, but Sarah insists it's nothing to worry about. Later, she makes a painful decision about her future with Kit, telling him she loves him but can't allow him to jeopardise his police career for her sake.

Sarah later explains her decision to brother David (Jack P. Shepherd) during another visit, insisting ending things with Kit was the only option.

Devastated, Kit drowns his sorrows with vodka before admitting to Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) that Sarah has finished with him. Sensing an opportunity, she offers to cheer him up with pizza after declaring there's nothing worse than heartbreak.

Later Kit and Bethany decide it's best for Harry Platt (Joshua Leavy) if Kit temporarily stays at the flat. Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) offers to keep the youngster entertained at Little Big Shotz while Bethany enjoys an evening with new fella Roman, and tensions flare when Kit reveals Harry will be spending the following week at the drama club.

Furious at the news, Harry lashes out, leaving Kit struggling to calm the situation while Bethany is away.

Back in prison, Sarah grows closer to fellow inmate Kacey, confiding her worries about Harry and admitting how grateful she is that Kit has stepped in to support him. But Sarah is left rattled when Kacey casually reveals that everyone already knows her former partner is a police officer.

Things take another worrying turn when Kacey discovers Sarah hiding away in her cell after another prisoner threatens her. She promises she'll make sure nobody lays a finger on Sarah again, but during Bethany's next visit, she's unsettled to notice Kacey closely watching them.

Sarah insists Kacey has become her closest ally inside – but could their friendship come at a price?

2. Tim Metcalfe's cousin Richie Parkinson is arrested for murder

Richie laughs off a text from his wife, Rachel, explaining to Tim that he's landed himself in trouble for staying out all night. Keen to avoid Sally's wrath, Tim claims the lads enjoyed nothing more exciting than a quiet evening playing board games.

The lie doesn't last long when Richie unexpectedly turns up at No.4 carrying a holdall, revealing Rachel has thrown him out. Forced to confess what really happened, Tim persuades Sally to let Richie stay for a few days.

Before long, Sally has had enough and insists he needs to leave. Claiming he'll stay with a friend in Liverpool, Richie heads off in a taxi, with Tim encouraging him to fight for his marriage rather than give up on Rachel.

However, Tim soon discovers his cousin's wallet wedged down the sofa and heads to return it. When Richie answers the door with blood stains down his shirt and acting strangely, his suspicions are immediately raised. Looking inside the house, he's confronted by a horrifying sight and wastes no time calling the police.

After a sleepless night, Tim and Sally are left reeling when Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) confirms Richie has been arrested for Rachel's murder. She also reveals that their daughter, Lucy (Anya Dewin), has been taken into care, while Richie insists he acted in self-defence.

The situation becomes even more complicated when social worker Ruth (Amy Drake) reveals Lucy's foster placement has collapsed and another home can't be found. Without discussing it with Sally first, Tim volunteers to take the girl in.

Although Sally does her best to make the youngster feel welcome, Ruth warns that Lucy is struggling with overwhelming grief and trauma.

Their first day together quickly descends into panic when Sally discovers Lucy has disappeared. After finding her waiting alone at a bus stop, Tim and Sally persuade her to return home - but they begin to wonder whether they've taken on more than they bargained for.

The following morning brings another difficult challenge when Lucy wakes the household screaming after suffering a traumatic nightmare.

Tensions continue to mount as Tim blames Sally for Rachel's death, insisting things could have turned out differently if Richie had been allowed to stay longer.

Meanwhile, Lucy's pain spills over when she crosses paths with Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) in Victoria Gardens. After Lily cruelly taunts her, Lucy reacts by grabbing her arm, forcing Jodie to step in before the confrontation escalates.

3. Dylan Wilson's return to work doesn't go smoothly

Wanting to evade being in the public eye, Dylan asks if he can swap to kitchen duties, but Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) refuses, insisting she needs him serving customers instead.

In the restaurant, Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) gathers brother Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and nephews Michael (Ryan Russell) and James (Jason Callender) to talk about the difficulties wife Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is facing.

When Dylan takes their order, Ronnie's abrupt manner leaves him feeling personally snubbed, and Alya is forced to diffuse the awkward situation.

Seeing Dylan's confidence knocked, Idris steps in to comfort him, before reminding Alya that his offer to buy her share of the eatery still stands.

4. Alya Nazir declines uncle Idris's offer to buy Speed Daal

Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) gives Alya a reality check and makes it clear that she’s missed an important deadline - it’s time she chose between her legal career and the restaurant.

She later tells Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) that she’s decided to sell her share of the business, and hopes an old friend of the family will put in an offer.

Gavin, the potential buyer, is shown around the restaurant and Idris watches him intently. Gavin’s impressed by what he sees, but as he heads to his car, Idris follows. Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) warn Leanne that Idris is dangerous and that they have it on good authority that he put the frighteners on Gavin. But will she listen to them?

Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) casually tells Hope to help herself to some money from his wallet, but while rummaging through it, she discovers something altogether more intriguing.

Her unexpected find soon leaves mum Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) wondering exactly what Ross has been hiding.

Could it be the family photo he stole from Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) upon her exit?
