It’s no surprise to learn that Jason Momoa is involved in the writing and production of this sturdy epic as well as starring in it, since a more Jason Momoa-ish show would be difficult to imagine. We’re in the Hawaiian Islands in the late 18th century and, when we land, it’s a group of small, constantly warring kingdoms, but a prophecy foretells that unification is imminent. Momoa is, naturally, the most fearsome warrior in the region but his (real-life) character, Ka’iana, is a reluctant fighter…until someone makes the fatal mistake of angering him.

The dialogue’s a bit clunky, but the landscapes and combat scenes are suitably impressive.
