After climbing the greasy pole, it appears Alan Partridge has slid back down it once more. He has “parted ways” with the BBC and following a brief yet unexplained stint in Saudi Arabia, Partridge has flown back to the UK to fulfil “a steady stream of Norfolk-based corporate work”. And amid chairing a focus group about ready meals and hosting a sales event for pig and cow feed, he is fronting this: a documentary about mental health.

It’s frustratingly patchy — despite Felicity Montagu and Tim Key both making welcome returns as long-suffering PA Lynn and “Sidekick” Simon Denton. But there are just enough flecks of vintage Partridge. For example, do hit pause when the “At Home with Alan” magazine photoshoot pops up. It’s a blink-and-you-miss it interview that includes revelatory nuggets including Alan’s “shoes- off-at-the-door” policy, which he implemented after “Nanette Newman trod dog dirt into the carpet”.
