Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This perplexing British chiller won't be to all tastes. In fact, it won't be to most. It's too downright weird. But its dark and disturbing tale of a disgraced children's entertainer who tries and fails repeatedly to destroy Possum, the hideous, human-faced spider puppet that's an external manifestation of his internal mental problems, will find its fans. Mission: Impossible villain Sean Harris plays the terminally troubled entertainer, veteran actor Alun Armstrong, channelling a warped Albert Steptoe, his frighteningly abusive stepdad, in something that's akin to a horror film written by Samuel Beckett. Waiting for God-knows-what maybe. There's a killer loose in the brooding Norfolk flatlands where the film is set. It could be either of them. Nicely done but very, very niche.
