Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Another entry in Liam Neeson's portfolio of by-the-book action thrillers, Blacklight finds him playing Travis Block, a covert "fixer" for the FBI who stumbles across a far-reaching government conspiracy. Keen to retire and spend more time with his daughter and granddaughter, Travis is lured back into the fray when an investigative journalist (Emmy Raver-Lampman) uncovers a top-secret programme that's cost several innocent civilians their lives. Neeson's default setting of furrowed brow and steely-eyed determination are present and correct, and the action sequences are well choreographed, if unsurprising. But the script (co-written by director Mark Williams) doesn't bear up to scrutiny, and has a tendency to lose its way as it nods to superior conspiracy thrillers such as The Parallax View and Three Days of the Condor.
