This far-fetched Alpine adventure, based on Hammond Innes's The Lonely Skier, too often betrays its pulp novel roots among resolutely studio-bound snow. Nevertheless, the cast is splendid, with Dennis Price and Robert Newton positively outdoing each other for the (over-) acting honours: the former plays a film extra-cum-scriptwriter sent by the latter, a film director, to write a script in the Dolomites, knowing full well there's Nazi gold in them there Alps. It becomes slightly less ludicrous when the snow traps everybody, and director David MacDonald ploughs through the tosh with a certain conviction, achieving a fine sense of claustrophobia. If you remember it's only a film, you might enjoy it.
