Alan Jones

From its opening montage of old footage to the open-ended finale, directors Marlind and Stein's third sequel in the vampires versus werewolves saga feels slapdash. The undercover Lycans are after Kate Beckinsale's hybrid daughter, so they can become immune to lethal silver weapons in this unspectacular hodge-podge of bloody action and empty thrills. The returning Beckinsale wears the dominatrix duds with her usual hauteur, but is clearly going through the motions as the nonstop fighting flatlines into repetitive and clunky CGI werewolf attacks. Lifting the paper-thin gloom slightly is Charles Dance, camping it up as a cowardly vampire elder, a mystery daughter (India Eisley) coping with her inner immortal monster and some occasionally startling special effects. However, even fans of the franchise will spot the stretch marks here.
