Science-fiction thriller starring Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin. Three years after monsters exterminated most of humanity, Will and his son, Hunter, live in the mountains of Colorado, at an altitude where the creatures cannot reach them. This post-apocalyptic thriller riffs on A Quiet Place, but fails to match that franchise's suspense. Monsters have suddenly appeared on Earth and are methodically wiping out humanity... but strangely, none of these "Reapers" can step any higher than 8,000 feet. Three years later, many tiny communities cling to existence above this safety line. In the mountains of Boulder, Colorado, Will (Anthony Mackie) tries to keep his young son (Danny Boyd Jr) safe. When the kid needs medical supplies, Will must descend into the danger zone alongside scientist Nina (Morena Baccarin) and weapons expert Katie (Maddie Hasson). The Reapers are unnerving, but in many scenes you can guess when one is about to appear, removing the slow build-up of stalking-related tension handled so well by A Quiet Place. There's a sense of familiarity about many of the generic sci-fi plot twists, too. But Mackie and Baccarin are fully committed, Colorado looks gorgeous and there's no denying that fighting giant bugs looks cool.
