Will Spann is driving his soon-to-be ex-wife Lisa to her parents' home when she mysteriously disappears without a trace during a stop at a gas station. A frantic Will engages the local police and Lisa's parents in a desperate attempt to find her, but as time passes and suspicion falls on him, he must take matters into his own hands, delving into the town's criminal underbelly while running from the authorities in a race against time. Gerard Butler is back in vigilante mode for this frustratingly generic thriller. He plays real-estate developer Will Spann, who's forced into action when his estranged wife (Jaimie Alexander) disappears from a gas station. Police suspect that Will himself is involved, so he sets out to uncover the truth and bring the real culprits to justice. Butler is certainly no stranger to these man-on-the-edge roles, but his scenery-gnawing performance here annoys more than it engages, and he isn't helped by a script that drips in cliché. Brian Goodman's pedestrian direction serves up underwhelming set-pieces, and the whole enterprise feels starved of suspense, not least in an early scene that all but gives away the ending.
