Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Danny Kaye plays a dual role as a soldier-mimic and the general he resembles in this comedy with echoes of Kaye's earlier On the Riviera and the true-life war adventure I Was Monty's Double, but alas this is not as funny as the former or as exciting as the latter. Most Kaye movies have their moments, and there are a few good laughs, notably a quick-change sequence in which Kaye does a breathtaking set of imitations (including Marlene Dietrich), and Diana Dors perks things up as a German spy, but the script and direction, and even the Sylvia Fine special material, are below par.
