The Call of the Wild

This old-fashioned family adventure follows the plight of a pampered St Bernard-cross called Buck after he is dognapped and forced to become a sled dog. It's the seventh movie adaptation of Jack London's late-19th-century survival yarn and this time Buck is a CGI creation. A grey-bearded Harrison Ford plays grieving Alaskan adventurer John Thornton, who bonds with Buck. Faced with wolves, bears, avalanches and river rapids, their trek together through snowy-mountain scenery into Alaska's frozen north is a red-blooded and rip-roaring encounter with nature. The Disney film is likeable and essentially family friendly, though some darker, crueller and more introspective scenes may prove a problem for more sensitive and younger kids.
