Episode 1: Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit

Summary

Dara O Briain hosts a gloriously geeky game show in which celebrities duel on video games. There are lots of laughs as David James and Susan Calman play Chuckie Egg and Tetris.

Review

Dara O Briain hosts this riotous video-game panel show, which sees two celebs (Susan Calman and David James this week) battling it out in a series of digital death matches with classic games like Tetris and Tekken alongside more modern challenges.

It’s a fun and appealingly tense hour of telly, but frankly it’s hard to know who this show is for – gamers will doubtless find it patronising (and inferior to actually playing the games themselves) while non-gamers probably wouldn’t have tuned in in the first place. A few touches show glimmers of promise – the spinning set is endearingly awkward, and the final round is inspired – but overall, this could be an early Game Over.
