Fans of previous monster mash-ups from the Roger Corman creature-feature conveyor belt (Sharktopus, Supergator) will probably enjoy yet another tale of a hungry hybrid beastie going on the rampage and scoffing its way through an appetising if uncharismatic cast. Here, the crew of a low-budget horror film, a gang of kidnappers and an intrepid scientist (played by token "star" Michael Madsen) are on the menu of a local Hawaiian legend. The B-movie acting, unconvincing special effects and gratuitous cleavage shots become tiresome after a while, but prolific exploitation director Jim Wynorski does have some beautiful locations and a modicum of Madsen cool to keep proceedings watchable. Like the members of the cast, who disappear in a puff of arterial spray whenever they encounter the toothsome terror, at least this nonsense doesn't totally wear out its welcome.
