Our Score
This fast-paced drama features a quartet of flashy Las Vegas magicians, including Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson, who use their elaborate stage illusions as a front for a series of audacious bank robberies. As they boldly shower audiences with cash from their heists, FBI agent Mark Ruffalo enlists the help of magic specialist Morgan Freeman to figure out how the modern-day Robin Hoods pull off their spectacular feats. The gaudy Vegas setting, intricate plotting and snappy dialogue suggest director Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans, The Transporter 2) has studied the Ocean's Eleven franchise, but the conjurer element offers an intriguing twist. Old hands Freeman and Michael Caine, as the magicians' moneybags benefactor, bring gravitas to a likeable but light tale, while Eisenberg and Harrelson are good value, adding a touch of subversive attitude to a glitzy showbiz world.
