Three teenagers gain extraordinary powers in this fabulous addition to the "found footage" subgenre (Cloverfield, Trollhunter). Grounded very much in the everyday, like stripped-down superhero fable Unbreakable, it follows a troubled nerd (Dane DeHaan), his much cooler cousin (Alex Russell) and the big man on campus (Michael B Jordan) as they explore powers assimilated while investigating a local cave. However, unlike the classic comic-book hero, these guys don't put on spandex and explore the maxim that "with great power comes great responsibility"; they just want to have fun. Initially using their telekinesis for pranks, the three teen titans exhibit an infectious sense of wonder as they revel in their astonishing abilities (the flying scenes in particular are breathtaking). But absolute power corrupts absolutely, as one of their number discovers, and things take a darker turn, leading to a jaw-dropping smackdown worthy of any big-budget blockbuster.
