Everything, Everything

This teen romance with "disease of the week" trimmings is a weepie of the first water. Have tissues handy. You'll either cry in empathy with its lovelorn characters or in bemused frustration at its clichéd dialogue, contrived storyline and a final plot twist that's a credibility-stretch too far. Eighteen-year-old Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) has been confined to her house almost since birth by an immune-deficiency disorder that essentially makes her allergic to everything. Then teenager Olly (Nick Robinson) moves in next door and they strike up a relationship escalating from texts and phone calls to Olly's clandestine visits to Maddy's hermetically sealed home. Maddy's super-protective mom finds out, though, and bars the couple from coupling. But what's life without love, and the ocean swim that Maddy has always dreamt of? Nothing, nothing. Corny but efficient, and perfectly fine if you're tweenage or early teen, or just seeking a good sob.
