A morally taxing courtroom drama from Argentina, exploring the case of a shop worker who is driven to murdering his manipulative and abusive boss, a corrupt butcher. Questions of right and wrong are littered throughout this story, which asks if the act of murder is always inexcusable. The answer is not so clear, with the film's choice to not take sides creating an interesting, but inconclusive exploration of morality that will draw different conclusions from each viewer depending on their politics. Exposing the shocking realities behind what is essentially modern slavery, as well as some questionable butchering practices, the abuse Joaquín Furriel's soulful protagonist endures adds an emotionally powerful punch, although the various idiosyncrasies of South American society may be hard to follow for those who are unfamiliar with it. Despite an unsatisfying resolution, this is a worthy drama that raises some important social issues.
