Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Expanded from the winning entry in a competition, writer/director Lowell Dean's comedy horror turns on the brilliant idea of having a badass cop become a werewolf. However, he fails to follow it up with enough other good ideas, so the film quickly runs out of inspiration and falls back on lamely lampooning genre clichés. Leo Fafard snarls gamely as the small-town deputy whose maverick policing style acquires a lycanthropic edge after he is targeted by a sinister cult. There's gore aplenty as eyeballs are stabbed, torsos are decapitated and faces are pulled off, but the effects are best employed in the transformation scenes, where the fuzz begins growing in a very cheeky spot. When it comes to the story however, the Scooby-Doo mysteries throw up more suspects and red herrings than this flimsy romp, which prefers to focus on Fafard's drunken antics with oddball buddy Jonathan Cherry and his dalliances with waitress Sarah Lind and fellow cop Amy Matysio - who comes close to stealing the picture.
