Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Disillusioned journalist Rich Peppiatt resigned very publicly from the Daily Star back in 2011 and was then so irked by the hacking scandal, he appeared at the subsequent Leveson inquiry to shed light on shady press practices. A one-man show followed and he continues his attack on the industrial levels of hypocrisy found in his former profession with this mischievous, occasionally laugh-out-loud documentary. Some of the most powerful men in tabloid journalism are the targets of his gadfly gusto: Martin Clarke (head honcho of Mail Online where "journalism is spelt as jism") and Daily Express editor Hugh Whittow are mercilessly pranked, but the prize targets are former Sun panjandrum Kelvin MacKenzie and Daily Mail chief Paul Dacre (whose home is literally doorstepped with a wobbly sex toy). Fans of satirical BBC3 show The Revolution Will Be Televised will appreciate the pranks Peppiatt pulls, while more serious reflection on press ethics comes from vocal tabloid victims such as Hugh Grant, Steve Coogan and Max Mosely, as well as The Guardian's Nick Davies (who broke the original hacking story). It's irreverent stuff and for those who enjoy hunters becoming the hunted, albeit briefly, it will be something of a tonic.
