RETURNING

Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson)

When is Nicky Wheatley returning? April 2024.

Kimberly Hart-Simpson will reprise her role as Daniel Osbourne's former love interest Nicky Wheatley this month.

The former sex worker who grew close to Daniel following the death of his wife Sinead is asked by him for help in finding out what happened to missing Lauren Bolton.

Nicky is now an outreach worker in the community and uses her contacts to try and aide him. Will she help clear Daniel's name? Plus, what will Daniel's current girlfriend Bethany and ex-girlfriend Daisy make of her return?

Speaking about her return, Hart-Simpson said: "It’s been 4 years since we first met Nicky and it is once again a pleasure to be back on the cobbles.

|Stories surrounding women within the sex industry have often been forgotten, shamed or unspoken. But not at Coronation Street, they respectfully explore the world these women live in, the impact it has on the community and at some points dangers attached to the work.

"The story of Lauren Bolton has allowed the safety of other characters to come forward such as Cassie but unfortunately led to the devastating effects of conspiracy theories by other folk. Nicky has fought against all stereotypes and I am looking forward to the audience finding out who and where she is today."

ARRIVING

Mr and Mrs Deering

When are Mr and Mrs Deering arriving? 2024.

Joel Deering hid the fact he had an estranged wife named Emily and their child from his girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey but fans will soon get to understand him more when the soap introduces his parents.

Speaking of Joel's reasoning for his behaviour, Lill teased that it could be a matter of his upbringing.

He told RadioTimes.com and other press: "It's kind of the middle child of a middle-class family. And he's probably navigating that and trying to be good enough. I'm looking forward to [seeing that] play out and see[ing] how that unfolds."

LEAVING

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash)

When is Paul Foreman leaving? Summer 2024.

Coronation Street favourite Paul Foreman will be killed off later this year after the character is diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The soap is working closely with the MND Association on this storyline and will explore the impact of the diagnosis on Paul and his loved ones as his condition progresses.

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, attacking the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work, often impacting the patient's senses such as sight, sound and feeling.

Actor Peter Ash said: "Paul is completely blindsided by the diagnosis and he decides to keep it from his family and friends as he tries to come to terms with the news.

"I knew very little about MND before embarking on the storyline and I am hugely grateful to the MND Association for all their help and support. For any actor playing a role which examines a real life issue or condition there comes a huge sense of responsibility and we are aware that some people watching this storyline are experiencing it in reality, it is their life.

"Awareness and education are really important. I have learned so much even in the short time I have been involved in this storyline. We hope Paul’s journey can make people more aware of the symptoms and what it is like for someone to live with MND."

The character will therefore die when the storyline concludes.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain)

When is Simon Barlow leaving? Summer 2024.

Actor Alex Bain is reportedly bowing out from his role as Simon Barlow this summer after 15 years in Coronation Street.

The news comes following the departure of on-screen dad Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoigne.

"Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family — but he realises that the time is right to move on," a source told The Sun before adding: "He's very excited about the future and other opportunities."

It is currently unknown how Simon will leave the soap but he is reportedly set to depart Weatherfield in the summer.

In the run-up to his exit, Simon has been drawn into the web of the reality-coding Institute and its leader Rowan Cunliffe.
