Doctor Who fans couldn’t be happier Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor
The Whoniverse rejoices with news the Broadchurch actor will be the first female Doctor

And the new lead of Doctor Who is… Jodie Whittaker. The Broadchurch actor will replace Peter Capaldi as The Doctor in this year’s Christmas special.
After the Wimbledon Men’s Final, which Roger Federer won in straight sets, the BBC announced Whittaker would be the 13th actor, and the first woman, to play the Time Lord.
So, how did fans react to the unveiling? Well, it marked the end of a long day for Whovians…
Firstly, fans had to sit through an ENTIRE tennis match to find who’d be taking control of the Tardis.
It's cruel to force geeks to watch sport in order to find out who the new doctor is.#WimbledonFinal #doctor13 #DoctorWho

And the tennis couldn’t even distract fans from the impending announcement as cameras kept cutting to former Doctor David Tennant in the crowd.
"You're coming back as #DoctorWho aren't you?"
