Merlin finale – Christmas air dates, times and episode title revealed

A festive fantasy feast awaits as the tale of King Arthur and the young wizard concludes with two final instalments showing just two days apart

The final two episodes of BBC1 fantasy drama Merlin will air just two days apart in the run up to Christmas.

The first instalment og the two-part finale, entitled The Diamond of the Day, will be shown in its usual Saturday night slot on BBC1 at 7:55pm on 22 December, with the concluding part airing just two days later on Christmas Eve, Monday 24 December, at 8:15pm.

Synopses for the episodes give a taster of the action to come but do not reveal any major spoilers.

Merlin is a prequel to the events of Arthurian legend and follows the wizard, played by Colin Morgan, as he strives to protect his young ruler, Arthur (Bradley James), and the kingdom of Camelot from the powers of darkness, manifested in witch Morgana (Katie McGrath).

Now in its fifth series, Merlin first aired in September 2008. Co-creators Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy say a five-season story arc had always been their intention.
