Who will be on the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing 2015?
That glitterball trophy isn't going to win itself and the rumour mill is already spinning. Here are the celebrities who could be showing off their fancy footwork this year...
Caroline Flack is probably just getting used to having a glitterball trophy in her life. The presenter sashayed her way to a stunning Strictly Come Dancing victory last year. But it won't be long until someone else is vying for a 10 from Len, a whoop from Bruno, compliments from Darcey and, well, something not too bad from Craig.
While the BBC won't comment on speculation, there are names already dancing around the rumour mill. Here's who may very well be donning sequins and fake tan this year...
Call the Midwife star Helen George is the latest celebrity to be rumoured for this year's Strictly Come Dancing. George plays bubbly Nonnatus House midwife Trixie in the popular period drama - a character who is partial to a dance or two. The 31-year-old actress also ran the London Marathon earlier this year so we know she's got the stamina to Salsa around the dance floor.
Gok Wan is reportedly in the running for this year's series. Now we know TV presenter and fashion guru Gok Wan could quickly get on board with Strictly Come Dancing's costume department. He'd be customising his skin-tight sparkly spandex in no time. But does he have the moves to impress Len, Darcey, Craig and Bruno? We'll have to wait and see...
Sir Tom Jones
Well, we've got to add Sir Tom Jones, right? Now that he's no longer being drafted in as a coach on The Voice he could hop over to Strictly, couldn't he? The Sex Bomb singer clearly has moves and he's got a head to for spinning after perching on those chairs for four series. We bargain he'd have fantastic banter with the judges, too. It's a no brainer.
The Coronation Street actress has made no secret of her interest in Strictly, last year admitting she'd do it "in a heartbeat". "Anything to do with dancing and performing I would love to do," she told Virgin Media.
Well, timing couldn't be better, could it? The actress will wave goodbye to the Street in the soap's live episode this September. That means the majority of her filming will be done and dusted, leaving plenty of time for dance training. And let's not forget that Tamaddon won the fifth series of Dancing on Ice so she's certainly got reality show form.
Jamie and Louise Redknapp
Husband and wife team Jamie and Louise Redknapp have comedian Jack Whitehall to thank for their names entering the rumour mill this year. Well, we say thank... Whitehall's tweeted that Jamie's "fuming" that he's managed to create the story from "nothing". It's all down to a conversation Whitehall is reported to have had with the audience during recent filming for Sky 1's A League of their Own. Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman, who was a guest on the show, is said to have been "genuinely annoyed" that the names were let slip, reports the Daily Star. But this tweet suggests it's been taken strictly the wrong way...
Georgia May Foote
Another famous face from soapland reportedly in the running is Coronation Street's Georgia May Foote. Her character Katy Armstrong has just left the Street for sunnier climes and, according to the Mirror, producers think her popularity with fans would mean Strictly is the "perfect" move.
Is the singer and reality star about to bring Insania to the Strictly dance floor? According to The Sun, the father-of-three is on the verge of signing a deal for this year's contest after being wooed by BBC1 bosses on four previous occasions. A 'source' told the newspaper: "It's no secret that we have wanted Peter to come on Strictly for a long time now. He doesn't come cheap, but we're convinced it's money well spent and think people who watch the show will love him. Although, the Mysterious Girl crooner has previously admitted to feeling nervous about the snug Strictly uniform... "I could not see myself wearing the spandex," he told The Sun. "I could do everything else, except for those tight trousers."
Everyone's favourite weather girl would surely be a popular choice for this year's Strictly. The smily and sunny BBC Breakfast star would certainly look fetching in sequins and there's something about her perfect poise which suggests she'd excel on the dancefloor. Bookies are currently giving Carol impressive 1/2 odds of being a contestant when the sparkly Saturday-night show returns to our telly screens later this year, which would apparently make her a near cert...
The former Top Gear presenter probably has a bit of time on his hands nowadays. It's the perfect time for him to swap his jeans and leathers for a bit of skin-tight lycra. Right? Anton Du Beke certainly thinks so. He told us as much on the Bafta red carpet, before adding that he thought partnering the motoring expert "would be fun".
Another famous face Strictly veteran Anton Du Beke gave his seal of approval to is former Labour leader Ed Milliband. The SCD dance floor has welcomed politicians before and we assume Milliband's work load is a little lighter post-General Election. Perhaps a few turns around the floor would lighten his spirits - and boast his public profile.
With his period drama set to air its sixth and final season this autumn, it looks like fans could be getting a double dose of all things Downton Abbey. The show's writer and creator is the latest famous face to find himself in the running for a spot on Strictly's stage. The 65-year-old has been openly critical of the entertainment format in the past, but that hasn't stopped BBC creative director Alan Yentob from offering him a place as a contestant. "There’s no doubt [Strictly Come Dancing is] entertainment, but it is more than that” he said during a lecture in London this week. "If Lord Fellowes doesn’t believe it, perhaps he should put his dancing shoes on and join us for a series. That is a serious offer, Julian." There's been no word yet from Fellowes, but it's probably fair to assume Downton fans everywhere have their fingers firmly crossed...
Long-running Corrie star Cotton has made no secret of his desire to waltz around Strictly's dance floor. Apparently he's a big fan of the show and was often spotted in the audience cheering on his pal Lisa Riley.
"Antony would be fabulous on Strictly and would be a massive ratings pull for them. He adores the show and there is no doubt he would love to be on it," a Corrie insider whispered to The Mirror recently. "When he was at Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright’s wedding he was asking people from the Beeb about it and kind of putting his hat in the ring to be a contestant."
The soap actor, who has played Sean Tully for 12 years, just needs to get ITV to agree. "It really would be ground breaking for an active Corrie artist to take part in Strictly so it’s a wait and see situation," added the secretive source.
TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh has thrown his own hat into the ring, admitting in this week's Radio Times magazine that he'd take to the Strictly Come Dancing stage. "I've been asked to do it several times, but my schedule wouldn't allow me. To do it well, you really have to clear a good three months."
He does have one reservation about donning his dancing shoes, though: "I know they'd make me the silly one with the bow tie, not the one with the shirt undone to the navel. And that's sad, really. My days of having the shirt undone to the navel are long gone, I fear."
Another famous face adding their own name into the rumour mill is Emmerdale's Isabel Hodgins. "I'm not even going to lie, I'd love to do Strictly," the actress told Lorraine. "I do a bit of dancing, it would be nice!" It would certainly bring a bit of light relief to her TV career. Hodgins' on-screen character Victoria Sugden has been put through the mill over the past few months what with her brother's attempted suicide, her fiancé cheating on her and now she's run over the village vicar. It might make a nice change to do a Tango or two.
Former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton says taking part in Strictly Come Dancing is “every girl’s dream”. However, the singer's not holding out too many hopes, telling Lorraine: “I think everybody in the industry wants to do it, so I’ve got a slim to none chance.”
Heaton's had a difficult few years, undergoing both a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with the BRAC2 gene, which increased her risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. “The past few years have been rough, so it would be really nice to feel womanly again and learn a craft.”
The Only Way is Essex’s Mario Falcone has revealed he fancies a go on BBC1 dance contest Strictly Come Dancing “because of the clothes”.
“I like the little open shirts, get the six pack out,” Mario told RadioTimes.com as he discussed which reality shows he’d be up for taking part in.
He’s already done Celebrity Big Brother, placing fifth in 2013’s twelfth series. So that’s one down. But Mario admitted he’s not been approached to take part yet.
“No, not yet, no. They haven’t seen me cut my s**t on the dance floor have they?” he teased.
TOWIE’s Jessica Wright would “love” to do Strictly Come Dancing, but admits her brother Mark’s efforts last year means he’d be a tricky one to out-do.
“I love dancing, so that would be amazing. One day maybe,” Jessica told RadioTimes.com. “[Mark] got to the final, so who knows? [He] set the bar very high.”
“He was always a footballer and I was a dancer growing up, so I suppose it’s more up my street,” Jessica added, Mark himself quite openly admitting he couldn’t “dance for toffee” when he signed up.
“I just think the experience is amazing,” Jessica added, speaking to us ahead of the launch of her debut fictional novel Sparkling Stilettos.
Someone clear Peter Jones’s diary. Apparently his day job is the only thing stopping the Dragons’ Den star from signing up for Strictly Come Dancing.
“I would love to do Strictly, but it’s a question of time,” Jones told Heat magazine. “They ask every year”.
You may think that the 6ft 7 businessman with size 14 feet would struggle on the dance floor. But he pointed out that he’s already had a twirl around with 5ft 8 pro Natalie Lowe for 2010's Sport Relief - beating none other than former fellow Dragon Duncan Bannatyne.
Signing up to a full series would see 49-year-old Jones follow in fellow Dragon Deborah Meaden’s footsteps, who took part in the 2013 series with pro partner Robin Windsor. Meaden and Windsor were the fourth couple to leave the competition.
“I admire Deborah for doing it, it’s a big challenge and takes so much of your life away. And she was great in it.”
Loose Women panelist Jamelia might be gearing up for a spin on the Strictly dance floor. The singer, who has been a regular on the lunchtime talk show since 2013, will reportedly be swapping ITV for BBC1 this autumn.
According to The Sun, the 34-year-old has been approached about both Strictly and I'm A Celebrity this year, with the former being a much more attractive option for the star.
"Jamelia's been wanted by both shows for a number of years but Strictly makes more sense to her because it will allow her to continue being a mum and to work on Loose Women," says a source.
