The best TV ‘ships’ that sailed full steam ahead

From Tim and Dawn to Zack and Kelly, we celebrate the most successful 'ships' who actually found love on the telly...

Ross and Rachel (Friends)

They were on a break more frequently than they were ON but Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) and Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) became one of the most beloved ‘ships’ the TV world has ever seen.

For ten years there were tears and massive slip ups at various altars but one epic love, marriage and a baby in a golden carriage (in no particular order) later they finally got their happy fri-ending.

Matthew and Mary (Downton Abbey)

They were “a show that flopped” at first but because she was his “stick” Matthew and Mary Crawley were always going to find their way back together, right?

Their will-they-won’t-they battle of wits went on for what felt like forever, becoming even more frustrating when Lavinia conveniently expired but Matthew wouldn’t take what he desired. Thankfully, come Christmas time, he finally put a ring on it.

We just won’t mention the motor or the awful things that happened twelve months later.

Doug and Carol (ER)

The original Doctor McDreamy (sorry Patrick Dempsey), George Clooney’s Doug Ross had pulses racing but it was ER nurse Carol (Julianna Margulies) who stole his heart.

It was FAR from plain sailing for this particular ship: He left for Seattle and it took her a long time to follow him, but when they finally reunited it was a match made in medical heaven.
