Nadiya has won the Great British Bake Off. The full-time mum from Leeds has beaten off competition from fellow finalists Tamal and Ian to be named the best amateur baker of 2015.
She won after baking perfect iced buns, an impressive raspberry millefeuille – which came first in the technical – and a lemon drizzle inspired wedding cake in the final.
“There has to be a mistake,” the 30-year-old said when Sue Perkins named her the winner of this year’s competition.
“I am never ever going to put boundaries on myself ever again,” Nadiya said later, clutching the coveted Bake Off cake stand. “I’m never going to say, ‘I can’t do it.’ I’m never going to say, ‘Maybe.’ I’m never going to say, ‘I don’t think I can.’ I can and I will.”
Fellow finalists Ian and Tamal were clearly pleased for Nadiya, showing their emotion as they spoke to camera.
In fact, they were far from the only ones to get a little choked up during tonight’s episode. Judge Mary Berry let her feelings get the better of her too…
“I’m really proud of Nadiya. So not confident to start with and over the weeks she’s grown and grown and learnt herself that she can do it.
“When she came into the final today she was nervous but she had this sort of look that, ‘I’m going to do it’ and she did. Sheer perfection. And I enjoyed every minute,” Mary said, as her voice broke.
