When did you decide to become a wrestler?

I’d always wanted to, but it seemed unrealistic, like wanting to be a footballer or an astronaut. But I found somewhere to learn the basics.

How does your mum feel about you being the Human Hate Machine?

She’d have preferred me to be a solicitor. She sees a side to me that no one sees when I’m wrestling. I don’t treat my mother the way I treat my opponents…

What was your worst injury?

I’ve torn both my ankle ligaments, chipped both my ankle bones, torn my trapezius muscle off my spine. The dangers are real – there’s no stuntman falling for you.

The Queen Mother was a fan of WoS. Do you think Wills and Kate might be tuning in?

If they have an ounce of Britishness in them, they’ll tune in with the rest of the royal family.

How would you describe WoS wrestling?

Sports theatre for the whole family. It’s a soap, with storylines where people have problems and disagreements, but they settle it in the ring.

Who was your hero?

The Rock. He’s still the coolest guy on the planet. I follow everything he does, apart from his gym and diet plan. He might be a Hollywood star, but I’ve been in [Scottish TV drama] River City.

Any pre-match rituals?

I do ten press-ups and ten squats, but never get to 11.

You’re “the nearest thing we have to Big Daddy”. Fair?

Come on – he was about 45 stone! I’m Medium Daddy.
