And the answers are…

1. Lisa Thiel: I knew everything I needed to know but still couldn’t get the right answer. I was humming the tune (often known as the Stella Artois ad theme) and trying to decide which composer’s work it most resembled. At the back of my mind was the fact the tune was based on an opera overture, so I went for Puccini as a prolific opera composer, but the answer was Verdi, who of course composed a lot of opera too. As soon as I left the question room, Barry reminded me that the tune was a version of the overture to The Force of Destiny. In classical music circles, that piece is linked to ill fortune… seems it’s no luckier for quizzers either!

2. Barry Simmons: I have little or no interest in reality shows. The only life that’s real to me is mine. Thus I constantly get the winners of these shows mixed up in my mind, and didn’t know the answer was Gogglebox.

3. David Rainford: I answered London, as the king had been resident there for a number of years, but in fact the answer was Rome. It resonated with me because it was an excellent question that encouraged me to read up on the coup. One of the many facets of good quizzing is to try to not make the same mistakes again.
