Sherlock star Sian Brooke is joining Suranne Jones and Bertie Carvell in Doctor Foster series two.
The Moorside actress, who wowed viewers earlier this year with her stunning turn as third Holmes sibling Eurus in Sherlock, steps aboard Mike Bartlett’s adultery drama for its much anticipated second outing.
Series one saw Jones’s GP Gemma Foster discover that her husband Simon (Carvel) had been having an affair with a younger woman (Jodie Comer) for two years. The thrilling tale featured a tense dinner party scene, which left audiences reeling and doubtless contributed to Jones’s Best Actress Bafta win.
Series two is set two years after the events of the dramatic series one finale, which saw Gemma win custody of son Tom after Simon smashed her head into a door at their home.
And if the gruesome new snap of the GP released by the BBC is anything to go by, there's no happily ever after planned.
Details about the exact role Brooke will play in Gemma (Jones) and Simon’s (Carvel) story remain scant, but we have a feeling her character will – as always – be worth keeping an eye on.
Doctor Foster is due to return to BBC1 this autumn
