BBC drama appoints Lucy Richer as acting head

The executive who oversaw the TV adaptation of The Casual Vacancy is not expected to take the role full-time say sources

Lucy Richer, who brought JK Rowling’s novel The Casual Vacancy to television, is taking over BBC drama in a temporary capacity.

The executive, whose credits also include Top of the Lake, The A-Word and Capital, will take the role vacated by Polly Hill who left to join ITV earlier this month after less than a year in the post.

Currently a drama commissioning editor at the corporation, it is understood that Richer has not put her name forward to take over full-time.

Names said to be in the frame for the job include in-house executive Matthew Read – who worked on hit shows Doctor Foster and Peaky Blinders – and head of drama at BBC Scotland, Christopher Aird.
