Sherlock special air date and title revealed

The long-awaited Victorian episode will air on New Year's Day in both the UK and America

Happy New Year Sherlock fans!

“I can exclusively reveal that the long wait for Sherlock will begin again in the late evening of January 1st,” Steven Moffat told an audience at London ComicCon today.

“…2024,” joked Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss, before producer Sue Vertue confirmed “and it will go out in America on the same day.”

So, to sum up, that means the Sherlock special will air on New Year’s Day 2016, in both the UK and USA.

But what will it be called? Up until now we’ve been referring to it as simply the Sherlock Special (or indeed the Sherlock Christmas Special), but does it have an actual title?

“The special is called the Abominable Bride,” announced Gatiss, adding that it is based on ‘Ricoletti of the club foot and his abominable wife’, which is one of the cases Watson refers to in the original Sherlock Holmes stories but not one that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle actually expanded on.

Perhaps we can add something here…

What does the title The Abominable Bride tell us about the Sherlock special?
