Over the last four years, we’ve watched five series and 43 episodes of hit ITV period drama Downton Abbey.
The lives, loves and scandals of the upper class Crawleys and their staff are beloved the world over. The drama airs in numerous languages all across the globe, while plot lines are pored over and gossip snapped up quicker than Mrs Patmore’s prize puddings.
But that could all be about to come to an end. NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt thinks Fellowes is “at a point where he’s able to start developing and writing” their new New York-set period drama The Gilded Age, with the aim that it’d come to life “sometime in the next season.”
Fellowes has said in the past that The Gilded Age would only move ahead once Downton was over, which leads us to the unhappy conclusion that it’s almost time to bid a fond farewell to the Abbey and its inhabitants…
We know the show is returning for a sixth season next year, but how would you feel if that was Robert, Mary and Cora’s last outing?
