Robert Pattinson joins Benedict Cumberbatch in The Lost City of Z

The British stars of Twilight and Sherlock will star together in James Gray's biopic of colonial adventurer Percy Fawcett who disappeared in the Amazonian jungle in 1925

Is this a fangirl dream team or what? First The Lost City of Z scores Benedict Cumberbatch as its leading man. Then director James Gray signs up Twilight actor Robert Pattinson as his co-star.

The project, adapted from David Grann’s acclaimed book about British colonial Percy Fawcett, was originally set to star Brad Pitt but the actor will now be producing with his company, Plan B reports The Wrap.

Cumberbatch’s involvement was announced back in September, with the Sherlock star on board to play Fawcett who disappeared with his son and another companion during a trip to the Amazonian jungle in 1925.

Details of Pattinson’s character are yet to be announced, although it looks likely he will play the companion who, along with Fawcett, mysteriously vanished after the latter claimed to have discovered a mythical city he named the Lost City of Z.

Written and directed by Gray (The Immigrant), there is no word yet on when the project will commence filming but the starry cast list will no doubt do wonders for its pre-production hype.
