Stay Close plot and cast: What's it about?

The thriller follows a group of people living comfortable (yet not entirely satisfactory) lives, who are all concealing dark secrets. The key individuals are Megan (Jumbo), a working mum of three; Ray (Armitage), a failed documentary photographer; and Broome (Nesbitt), a detective haunted by a missing person's cold case.

However, when Megan's old friend Lorraine (Parish) delivers some shocking news, all three of their lives will be impacted, as the moments from their past return to haunt them.

The behind the scenes team includes Coben himself, Nicola Shindler (Happy Valley, Years and Years, It's A Sin), who has also worked on The Stranger, Safe and The Five, and both Brassic's Danny Brocklehurst and Richard Fee, who were also involved with Coben's other Netflix productions.

"I can’t wait to return to Manchester to work with Nicola, Danny, Harlan and the team again," said Armitage. "I love Harlan’s style and this plot and character will be brilliantly challenging. At a time when we have remained apart, Stay Close promises to break all the rules.”

Coben added: “I am so happy and excited to Stay Close (pun intended) with Danny Brocklehurst, Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee — the same team that made The Stranger, Safe and The Five. And talk about a dream-come-true cast – Cush Jumbo, an incendiary and awesome talent; Jimmy Nesbitt, a legendary actor I always wanted to collaborate with; and wow, Richard Armitage back again!”

In more casting news, Eddie Izzard is playing Harry, a small-town lawyer, alongside Small Axe's Daniel Francis as Megan's partner Dave and Bethany Antonia (Get Even) as the couple's daughter Kayleigh. Rachel Andrews has been cast as Kayleigh’s best friend Bea.

Additionally, the series features a "seemingly sweet young couple", played by Leonardo's Poppy Gilbert (Barbie) and Hyoie O’Grady (Ken), plus Line of Duty's Andi Osho as former army sergeant Simona, who is expecting her first child, and EastEnders' Jo Joyner as a police detective called Erin Cartwright.
