No more Gavin & Stacey - Ruth Jones quashes James Corden rumours
“I can promise you absolutely that there are no plans to make one,” says Jones after her co-creator revealed he'd "love" to do a special of the hit comedy
Ruth Jones has quashed rumours about the return of Gavin & Stacey in a one-off special.
Jones, who co-created the popular BBC sitcom with James Corden, and played Nessa, told Radio Times, “I can promise you absolutely that there are no plans to make one.”
Corden, who recently returned to his G&S role of Smithy for a Sport Relief sketch, teased fans last week by suggesting a return was on the cards. “I’d love to do another Gavin & Stacey special. It’s just finding the time,” he said.
But Jones explains, “I think James was just saying he’d like to do one but then we've always said that. No, sorry folks, no more Gavin & Stacey planned!”
The show ended on New Year’s Day 2010 with Smithy talking Nessa out of marrying Dave, and Stacey announcing her pregnancy.
Jones had potentially better news about her Wales-set comedy-drama Stella, whose fifth series ended on Sky1 last week with the marriage of its title character, played by Jones. “We’re hoping to do a Christmas special,” she told RT.
Of the most recent run, which was released on DVD on Monday, Jones says, “I'm incredibly proud of this latest jaunt into Pontyberry life – we have such a superb and committed cast and crew who make the show.”
