Review

American Office alumna Mindy Kaling plays a version of herself — she’s an obstetrician, not a comedian — in this immediately likeable sitcom. This Mindy can recite dialogue from When Harry Met Sally and Notting Hill, and is obsessed with her age (31) and weight (“chubby”). She’s single and looking for love, of course. This sounds formulaic — and, oh dear, it opens with her making a drunken speech at her ex’s wedding — but the mix of snark and heart is perfectly judged, every character already has a third dimension and the script fizzes with brilliant lines.
