Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

With a 2014 reunion show under their belts, the Goodness Gracious Me team have embraced BBC2’s India Season with heavily-accented abandon. This special begins by skewering the idea that spawned it, bringing the tense, craven and originality-lite proceedings of a TV ideas meeting to life as Indian executives decide on the contents of their English season. From then on there’s the joy of returning characters such as the competitive goddesses vying for status, the Kapoors establishing trade relationships with the East India Company and bon mots from granny at Brownton Abbey.

Friend of the show Art Malik is a good sport, starring as the mournful Shah Jahan in the act of commissioning the greatest monument to love the world has ever witnessed.
