Episode 6: The Face on the Poster

Review

In this 1975 episode, Captain Mainwaring implements a recruitment drive for the platoon that requires a face to go on the accompanying poster. But whose should it be? “We should all vote in a secret ballet,” suggests Jones, unhelpfully.

The lance-corporal’s subsequent arrest after a printing mix-up makes for an awkward third act, but high spots include Godfrey’s mortified expression at the suggestion that he’s being rude (“He was sort of slightly hurt all the time,” show creator Jimmy Perry once said of his character), and a guest appearance from Carry On stalwart Peter Butterworth as Mr Bugden the harassed printer.
