Episode 6: Italy

Summary

The duo arrive in Italy, where they abandon their hogs for the gondolas of Venice, and bake a classic focaccia by the side of a canal. They later visit Si King's sister, who lives in Tuscany, and savour a pasta pie in the back streets of Ferrara. There then follows a dash for Turin to help celebrate the country's 150th birthday, a visit to a hazelnut farm to learn the secrets of a certain chocolate spread and the chance to re-create big-screen movie The Italian Job on the rooftop of the old Fiat factory.

“It’s dead weird – it’s all walking and water,” say the Bikers. They’ve had to park their usual mode of transport because they’re in Venice where the roads are, as they’ve noticed, rather damp. Although they’re touring around Italy, they promise they won’t only be making pizza (apart from their version of Stromboli). And, true to their word, they knock up a glistening, mouth-watering focaccia followed by a gut-busting pasta pie before setting off for a Tuscan feast. As if that’s not enough to make them loosen their belts, they discover the Piedmontese delicacy gianduja, which they describe as “Nutella on steroids”.
