Episode 1: Norway

Summary

Si King and Dave Myers bike from north to south through Europe, searching for the best baking each country has to offer. They start their 5,000-mile trek in Norway, picking up tips and recipes from professionals and home bakers - including a 95-year-old who still makes waffles on her 65-year-old waffle iron. The duo also rustle up some of their own favourite Norwegian recipes - Scandinavian rye bread, cardamom and lemon cookies, and ham and cheese-filled pastries.

Review

The remorselessly jokey bikers leave our shores and head to Europe for a new series about baking, starting in Norway, where they go on and on about the likelihood of seeing trolls. They even dress up for a terrible and very weird panto mini-version of Peer Gynt.

But the food looks marvellous, particularly raw dough the size and consistency of chubby babies that’s used to make heavenly speciality loaves in a luscious mountainside bakery. If you can cope with the Bikers’ exhausting enthusiasm for absolutely everything, then this is an instructive trip.
