Episode 11: Who's There?

Summary

The detectives investigate the murder of a wealthy estate agent during a robbery at his home. Lindsay and Flack are led to one of the suspects when they examine a package used to lure the victim's wife into opening the front door to the assailants. However, it becomes clear he is not responsible for the crime, and the evidence reveals there were many people in the victim's life with reasons to want him dead.

Review

A wealthy couple, Ron and Elizabeth Ferguson, are making stilted small talk over dinner in their elegant New York apartment. Intercut with this refined scene are flashes showing two masked intruders rushing in and violently beating the couple, leaving one lying in a pool of blood. It’s such a taut, tightly directed opener that it’s all the more of a pity that the rest of the episode is a little flabby.

The CSI team’s journey to find the perpetrators is typically convoluted – not everyone’s telling the truth – and, even though your first guess at the murderer’s identity will probably be right, you’re unlikely to work out how they did it. More intriguing, though, is Mac’s final expression when he clicks on a social network site.
