Episode 1: The Equalizer

Summary

New series. Reboot of the 1980s crime drama, starring Queen Latifah as a single mother and former CIA operative who uses her extensive crime-fighting skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. Robyn McCall springs into action when a teenager becomes embroiled in a dangerous situation.

Review

Got a problem? Odds against you? Then it’s time to call in Robyn McCall – a walking, talking sword of Damocles who’s coming to the aid of New York’s lost souls. But don’t go picturing Edward Woodward or Denzel Washington, as this is an all-new Equalizer with Queen Latifah cool and very much in control as McCall.

While the formula is reassuringly familiar, efforts have been made to bring the plotlines bang up to date. This opener, for instance, sees our vigilante hero getting to grips with driverless cars and deep-fake technology as she helps a vulnerable teenage girl by the name of Jewel who’s become the police’s prime suspect in the shooting of a lawyer.
